Havisure

Havisure is a vaccine designed to protect against hepatitis A, a viral infection that affects the liver and can lead to symptoms such as fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, and jaundice. Hepatitis A is usually spread through contaminated food or water, and vaccination is the most effective way to prevent infection.India’s first indigenously developed hepatitis a vaccine.

How It Works

Havisure contains an inactivated form of the hepatitis A virus. When administered, it stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies against the virus, providing protection without causing the disease. Antigen used is strain HM175.

Administration

• Primary Series: Typically administered as a single intramuscular injection.Primary immunization should be administered at least 2 weeks prior to expected exposure to HAV
• Booster Dose: A booster dose is recommended 6-12 months after the initial dose to ensure long-term protection.
• Administration Site: Given as an intramuscular injection, usually in the upper arm (deltoid muscle).

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

• Pain or swelling at the injection site
• Mild fever
• Headache
• Fatigue
• Loss of appetite

Severe reactions are rare.

• Pregnancy: Havisurecan be administered during pregnancy if needed, but it is recommended to consult with a healthcare provider.
• Lactation: Safe for breastfeeding mothers.

Minimum Age Group

• Minimum Age: Approved for use in individuals aged 12 months and older.

Contraindications

• Allergic Reactions: Not recommended for individuals with severe allergies to any component of the vaccine, including neomycin.
• Severe Illness: Vaccination should be postponed in cases of acute, severe febrile illness.
