Many pediatricians are using pentavalent DPT combo vaccines for 6/10/14 week immunizations which don't include IPV (Injectable Polio Vaccine) – a compulsory and important vaccine to protect against polio, a disease with no cure.
🔍 What You Need to Know:
- OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine) does NOT offer 100% protection and is being withdrawn from the national schedule
- OPV is being replaced by polio injections (IPV) nationwide
- A total of 5 IPV injections are compulsory as per IAP and WHO guidelines in the first 5 years
- Standalone polio injections have NOT been available in India for the last 5 years

Next time you're offered a cheaper vaccine for your newborn, please check if it has a 6-in-1 DPT combo from any available whole cell or acellular brand – as they have IPV included in them.
